Creative Coaching-

MY STORY

It’s been a three year journey- one that I could not have imagined, allowing me to gently move from resistance to freedom, from limiting beliefs to possibility, from fear to love. In March of 2020, when the country shut down due to the Pandemic, and we shifted to remote work at home, I embarked on a creative journey with a guide, my guide, Whitney Freya, an effervescent and fearless creative muse.

Through the process of painting, one brushstroke at a time, I let go! I was open to receiving something, but not quite sure what that something was. I began practicing meditation, pulling oracle cards and engaging in practices some may consider Woo Woo. I Feng Shui’d my studio, conducted a space clearing ritual and began to feel a sense of ease and lightness. I took my personal journey to the canvas, painting intuitively, allowing the canvas to tell me what it wanted to become. Less focus was placed on the end product, as the process itself was healing and cathartic. Oh believe me when I tell you- that inner critic still lives, but I learned to trust the meditative process of applying paint to canvas, and gave myself permission to play, and gradually the voice that thinks I’m not good enough, quieted. Leaning into my intuition, paying attention to signs and symbols that appeared regularly, my beliefs and perspective shifted- about myself and my perspective on life. I felt kinder, softer, more open and aware, and more aligned with my purpose- my truth.

This did not magically happen on its own. I do believe however that I had been preparing for this, even if subconsciously. It all started when I signed up for an on-line painting class with Whitney Freya. It was spring of 2020 and we were confined to our homes for days on end, mindful of being exposed to Covid. The class was a 21 day painting challenge titled “Green Tara.” I jumped, no, dove right in and engaged in live painting sessions every day for 21 days. I loved it, every second of it, and couldn’t wait for the next day’s painting session! I was inspired, excited, and totally hooked!

Painting was something I practiced my whole life, and continued through college as a fine arts major and beyond. But, up until now, my painting practice was simply about creating “pretty pictures”. My paintings lacked substance, direction and meaning. But that all changed on day one of my Green Tara class. I learned, through the process of layering, to let go of perfection, and all the untruths that accompanies it. Through guided meditations with Whitney, conversations with my fellow artists, and a willingness to stay open, I soared! I learned to read my paintings- to allow them to tell me what they wanted, and where they wanted to go. I felt a sense of freedom and heightened awareness that enabled me to connect resistance in my painting process to resistance in my life. Most rewarding and valuable were the discoveries I had and finding opportunity for change.

Something was different, I was different, and my painting practice developed into one with intention, with meaning and purpose, regardless of end product. I felt a strong sense of freedom, presence, and joy, and for that, I am grateful.
